Arequipa

Located in the south of the country, Arequipa is known as “White City”. With mild weather and a dry climate, Arequipa is an extraordinary city where religious viceroyalty and republican architecture stands out as a product of the European and native influences. This area was first taken by the Wari Empire and was later seized by the Churajon Culture. These pre-Columbian cultures left behind magnificent agricultural terraces and the remains of these incredible societies can still be seen on the landscape today. Arequipa is located beneath the towering “Misti” (dormant volcano) and is within close reach of the Colca Valley. This area has been subject of a series of geological processes that have sculpted the landscape and made it what it is today. With beautiful scenery and unrivaled pre-Columbian history, Arequipa is a wonderful city full of culture, tradition and adventure.
